The Opportunity
The Senior Legal Counsel Functions, Technology & Data Privacy EMEA will act as a senior advisor to the respective teams of the Support Functions and the Technology teams in EMEA:
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Be a trusted and dedicated senior legal advisor for the Support Functions and Technology teams (HR, Finance, Tax, Treasury, GICL) on a wide range of legal, compliance and governance matters, including homologation and labeling regulations, product liability, privacy regulations, company governance issues, complex claims and litigation handling, training and development as well as compliance best practices.
- Contribute to the strategic discussions, projects and activities as required by the respective leadership teams in assigned business areas, including leading the EMEA Data Privacy expertise. Act as Go To Legal Person for Data Privacy matters and in close collaboration with the global data privacy team. Responsibilities include advising on applicable data protection, privacy laws and governance, liaising with Supervisory Authorities as necessary, assisting with the provision of practical guidance to the business on policies and procedures and providing scalable written guidance to teams on how data privacy applies to our products and services.
- Act as Senior Legal Counsel for the Functions and Technology teams within EMEA: ensure policies and applicable laws and regulations are communicated to the organization to secure sustainable business. Oversee and manage litigation and investigations in EMEA in assigned business areas. Provide training to teams in the assigned business areas on an as-needed basis. Manage and ensure alignment with outside counsels to secure the interests of the organization in line with budget. Drafting and reviewing any agreements/documentation in assigned business areas and projects, including standard agreements and legal matters (e.g., Joint Dev. agreement, Cooperation, Loans, Cash Pool, Financing, Securities). Implement standard agreements and templates across EMEA.
- Ensures compliance with Corporate policies such as Business Conduct Manual, Anti-Bribery, etc. in assigned business areas. Owns the handling of non-compliance issues in close alignment with the Legal Directors in assigned areas. Provide training and coaching on legal policies and guidelines, legislative aspects in general, new regulations and related overall responsibilities for the company, business, and functions and be an active member of the EMEA legal function, and lead / co-lead certain functional activities (e.g., practice groups, expertise centers).
- Ensure proper collaboration of the legal team members and agree on main goals with relevant business leaders. Liaise with the EMEA Legal Leadership Team, other members of the EMEA legal team and corporate legal department in Headquarter on specific matters and topics. Act as mentor and point of contact for other Legal Team members
To Join Our Team You Will Need
- Degree in Civil Law from a University in EMEA. Admitted to practice law in the US and/or an EMEA jurisdiction.
- Foreign post-graduate degree. LLM is considered as an asset.
- 10 years post qualification experience as attorney (including experience in law firm) and legal counsel in a business environment. Experience and knowledge of company, commercial, litigation, regulatory, financial, data privacy and labor law.
- Substantive experience within a business/commercial environment. Have experience / be member of a business management steering / executive team.
- An understanding / interest of the tire or automotive industry (not essential) - International exposure - Matrix organization - Dual reporting.
- Ability to instill confidence.
- Ability to to build effective relationships.
- Ability to deal with people at all levels.
- Ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
- Sound commercial and business judgement.
- Ability to take decision and face challenges in cooperation with executive management.
- Ability to communicate in clear and concise manner, both verbally and in written format.
- Excellent organization skills.
- Fluency in English. Other language is considered a plus.
